Laura Tracz-Gelis

I am a nationally certified, Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health from DePaul University. When working with clients, my goal is to create a welcoming and strength-based environment to facilitate self-understanding and growth.

My work aids individual adults, families, couples, and adolescents. The interventions I use are trauma-informed, mix cognitive and somatic techniques, and have a mindfulness foundation. My craft meets the person where they are and creates a personalized approach. Some of the theories I use include Internal Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have practice working with a wide range of experiences including mood disorders, anxiety, social anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, postpartum mood disorders, grief, crisis and risk management, and career counseling.

I have received specialized training through APSATS to work with individuals who participated or experienced betrayal trauma. This work often combines understanding the neuroscience of trauma, uncovering relational patterns and their roots, moving through grief, and rebuilding relationships. Another specific population I see includes women who have Autism. Oftentimes when working with women who have Autism, we explore developing deeper connections with others, uncovering the impacts of societal norms, and building the confidence to be authentic.

Understanding human nature and how systems work has always been a core part of my interests. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I received a Master of Science in Economic and Policy Analysis and was in consulting for over 10 years.
