Elizabeth Berland LPC, SE

I came to the therapeutic profession midlife, bringing with me both my Master’s in Counseling and the life experiences that continue to shape how I support others. I have continued my training in Somatic Experiencing and am now a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), with additional training in Transforming Touch (TT).

I have always felt drawn to working with children and adolescents. I believe that supporting a young person also means supporting the parents and caregivers around them. Helping children and families develop greater understanding, connection, and confidence is an important part of my work.

My experience includes working with children ages 3–12 on the autism spectrum, as well as children, adolescents, and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, grief, relationships, life changes, and other challenges. I often focus on regulation, mind-body connection, communication, healthy decision-making, and building practical skills that can be carried into everyday life. My areas of focus include body and nervous system awareness, regulation and coping skills, communication, parenting support, and trauma and healing.

As a body-centered therapist, I pay close attention to the connection between the body, nervous system, emotions, and behavior. With children, I incorporate play therapy and the arts to create opportunities for expression, exploration, and healing in ways that feel natural and engaging.

At the heart of my approach is connection. I believe children and teens need to feel safe, comfortable, and understood in order for therapy to be effective. Building trust takes time, and I strive to create a space where each client can feel accepted for who they are. From that foundation of connection, we can work together to better understand their experiences, develop new skills, and move toward meaningful goals.
