Setting Vision for 2025

One practice we like is setting visions. We do it for meetings, projects, people – anything really! With the New Year underway, it’s a great time to take a moment to think about WHO and HOW we want to be this year.

What is visioning?

Visioning is:

  • An act of the imagination
  • Creating a compelling picture or image of the future
  • Claiming a destination or North Star for yourself (who/what/where/when/why/how you are) so you can more efficiently and strategically chart and travel your course
  • A life skill
  • A motivational vetting tool to inform your day-to-day choices, i.e. is this in line with my vision?
  • A sweet gift to ourselves, helping us to live more in line with who we truly are and want to be

Visioning can be useful in almost any situation. It’s motivating. It’s empowering. It’s expansive. It’s aspirational. It calls us into more of ourselves.

Visioning is not a goal that gets met and is done. We get to keep living into our visions moment-by-moment, day-by-day.

And they can evolve with us as we learn and grow, or uncover new desires and edges for ourselves.

Great visions are:

  • Stated in the present tense, as if you are already living them – “I am…”
  • Use action verbs vs filler verbs – “I express…” vs “I try to express…”
  • Focus on what you DO want/choose/yearn for vs what you DON’T want

Some examples:

  • I live life as an adventure with an open heart.
  • I am courageous.
  • I feel all my feelings.
  • I am deeply supported.
