My entire therapeutic practice is based on three words: I believe you. How often in life (both past and present) have individuals struggled with someone believing them? How easy it is to be judged and misunderstood. A lack of being believed, coupled with being both judged and misunderstood are often what create low self-esteem, depression, trauma, fear and anxiety: all of which can affect relationships, friendships, family life, work, school etc. With support, change and healing are realistic possibilities.
As a therapist since 2018, I provide client-centered, therapeutic support, which focuses on the individual’s strengths (both personal and professional) rather than focusing on the individual’s perceived flaws and/or self-imposed imperfections. My practice areas include (but are not limited to): trauma (specifically domestic violence, intimate partner violence, as well as sexual assault/sexual abuse), work based/employment trauma, school/university trauma, religious trauma/religious abuse and familial historical trauma. As an African-American/Afro-Indigenous, Queer, cis-woman, I have extensive experience working with BIPOC communities, as well as LGBTQIA2S+, and immigrants of all statuses. I also really enjoy providing a safe space for therapists who may feel that they are in need of a therapist.
Regarding therapeutic modalities, I take an integrative and eclectic approach, which includes (but is not limited to): Mindfulness Based approaches, Rational Feminist Modality, CBT and Motivational Interviewing.
I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and I am currently receiving supervision from an LCSW, as I work towards terminal licensure. I have a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from The Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice, The University of Chicago, as well as a Master’s of Science (MSc) from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.
