Mengxi (Ella) Zhi

Hi, I’m Ella—nice to meet you.

I believe each person carries an inner wisdom and wholeness. My role as a therapist is to help you reconnect with that potential and your true self. Beyond psychotherapy, I see healing as something that can be found in every aspect of life. My background includes three years of Buddhist study, which allows me to bridge contemplative wisdom with mental health. I also bring curiosity toward spirituality and meaning-making, and I welcome clients who wish to explore these dimensions together. Having been an international student for the past 10 years, I also understand the challenges of cultural transitions and finding a sense of belonging.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, grounded in psychodynamic and humanistic theories, and enriched by imaginary communication, somatic work, and mindfulness. I aim to meet clients in their own language and world, rather than asking them to adapt to mine. I offer a compassionate space for those who simply need to be seen and heard.

I work with clients navigating self-exploration, life transitions, intimacy and relationships, cultural adaptation, self-esteem, identity, family dynamics, anxiety, depression, ADHD, body image, and uncertainty about the future.

In my free time, I enjoy decorating my physical space, meditation, reading romance novels, bouldering, surfing, baking, and spending time outdoors—especially swimming in Lake Michigan.

At the heart of my work is the belief that all experiences and emotions carry meaning. They are not “negative,” but attempt to tell a story about who we are. My goal is to support clients in deepening self-understanding, cultivating self-compassion, and living more fully from their authentic selves.
